On the morning of August 14, at the Kinh Bac Cultural Center, the Bac Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a scientific seminar entitled “Preserving and Promoting the System of Relics Associated with the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line.” Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Xuan Loi attended and delivered the opening remarks.

Speaking at the seminar, Vice Chairman Le Xuan Loi emphasized that the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line and the victory over the Song army in 1075-1077, under the command of General Ly Thuong Kiet, marked an important milestone in the nation's history of national construction and defense, demonstrating the military art and solidarity of the Dai Viet army and people.

Over nearly a millennium, Bac Ninh and other relevant localities have preserved numerous relics, archaeological traces and cultural heritage associated with the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line. The system holds outstanding historical, military, cultural, architectural and religious values, while serving as an important resource for traditional education, scientific research and cultural tourism development.

However, urbanization, infrastructure development and natural impacts are posing significant challenges to relic preservation. Some sites have deteriorated, many archaeological traces remain insufficiently studied, and connections among individual relics into a unified historical and cultural space remain limited.

At the seminar, experts and researchers focused on clarifying the historical significance of the Ly Dynasty, the resistance war against the Song army and the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line, as well as the roles of Ly Thuong Kiet and the army and people of Kinh Bac. They also discussed the values of notable relics, including Xa Temple, Vong Nguyet Temple, Bo Vang Pagoda, Phan Dong Temple-Pagoda, Nui Temple and Kim Son Camp.

Participants proposed solutions for conducting further research, preserving, restoring and promoting the value of the relic system in a coordinated and sustainable manner. They also called for greater application of technology and digital transformation, linking heritage preservation with cultural tourism and traditional education.

Vice Chairman Le Xuan Loi requested continued efforts to supplement historical and archaeological documentation, conduct comprehensive assessments of the current condition of the relics, and clarify the scale, structure and outstanding values of the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line.

The outcomes of the seminar will be compiled and incorporated by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism into the dossier to be submitted to the competent authorities for recognition of the “System of Relics Associated with the Nhu Nguyet River Defense Line” as a Special National Relic in Bac Ninh Province./.
