MoIT inspects preparations for dry-season power supply

Following the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s guidance, in late February and early March 2024, the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV), along with relevant units, conducted inspections of production and transmission preparations for electricity supply during the dry season of 2024 in various transmission units and hydroelectric plants in Hoa Binh, Son La and Bac Giang provinces.

Good job

A report by Power Transmission Company No.1 (PTC1), which is in charge of managing the power transmission grid from Ha Tinh Province northward, shows that local power transmission units and 500kV transformer stations have diligently followed the directives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT). Accordingly, they have developed operating plans and power supply schemes, conducted scenario drills, performed repairs, maintenance and replacements of equipment, strengthened inspections of transmission lines and corridors, and detected and addressed any deficiencies in the grid. They have also prepared human resources, materials and equipment to promptly handle any incidents that may arise.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Company stated that they have developed annual production plans as well as plans for power generation during the dry season. They have also followed the proper working methods for their units, ensuring the capacity and output according to system requirements. They have been carrying out repairs and maintenance for the year 2024 efficiently.

Similarly, the Son La Hydroelectric Company, which manages and runs Son La and Lai Chau hydroelectric plants, has built and implemented plans for electricity generation during the dry season of 2024 following the directives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN.

Ready to ensure efficient power supply during dry season

Leaders of the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam highly rated the preparations of EVN’s transmission units and hydroelectric plants. To ensure efficient electricity supply during the dry season of 2024, especially during the peak months of the summer in the northern region, the ERAV leadership proposed that EVN, EVNNPT and PTC1 continue implementing management and operation measures to ensure safe and continuous operation of the power grid during the hot season, as directed by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This is particularly important given the potential increase in electricity demand.

For hydroelectric production, it is necessary to closely monitor the hydrological situation, implement water-saving and efficient water utilization measures, and adhere to regulations and procedures for reservoir operation. Regular monitoring and strict supervision of the operation of power plant equipment should be conducted to prevent any avoidable incidents. Additionally, inspections and reinforcement of equipment should be carried out to improve the reliability and power generation capacity of the units.

For transmission units, enhanced management and operation, inspections and rectification of grid deficiencies, and timely completion of maintenance and repair plans are crucial. Improved forecasting, scenario drills, and comprehensive preparations in terms of contingency plans, personnel, materials, and equipment should be made to handle any incidents that may occur. Close coordination with local authorities is also necessary to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining the safety clearance zones of high-voltage power lines, ensuring safe, continuous and stable power transmission during the hot weather season and the dry season of 2024 in general.
